When You See Money as a Tool in Your Goal Setting Process, You Will Lead a More Balanced Life

Where Does Money Fit In the Goal Setting Process?

Some view money as the most important tool in goal setting. Others consider making money as their primary goal, in spite of everything else. When you see money as one of the tools in your overall goal setting process, you will not lose sight of having balanced goals, and therefore you will lead a more contented life.

Breaking Goals Down To The Basics

One of the primary reasons why people fail to execute their goals is they set forth unrealistic or overly complex goals. Most of us have the tendency to look at the finish line without paying much consideration to the distance between the end point and us. Here are a couple examples to illustrate this point:

  • My goal is to lose 80 pounds by next year.

    I Need to Accomplish Something

Do you have trouble taking a day off? Boy, I do. When I take a day off I lie around all day, read novels, eat whatever I want, take a nap, and generally do whatever I want. It’s awful. I get depressed, I don’t feel well, I don’t accomplish anything.

Did you catch that last phrase? "I don’t accomplish anything.

    Reach Your Goals - Goal-Pooling

    Goal-pool with friends or acquaintances

Get together with a group of friends or co-workers and host a logistical brainstorming party where all the invitees lay out the goals they’d like help with and make plans to meet them, with the help of the rest of the group. The result might look something like this:

Every Monday the whole crew gets together for a half-hour after work to help Barbara make fund-raising calls for her charity (and in exchange, everyone gets invited to the hoity-toity, networking-heaven Christmas party held to thank the donors and volunteers).

Prerequisite Qualities For Optimum Goal Setting

The minute you set a goal, you are creating a ‘mini crisis’ in your mind. You’re telling your mind about a journey you are considering. In simple terms you are stating where you want to be in relation to where you are. And in between these two is a chasm, a gap.

    Make Your Dreams Reachable

All too often, we may be envisioning a level of success, which is far beyond what we can realistically accept and thus fall short of full manifestation. However, if we can envision a period of time in which our success can gradually increase, quite often our subconscious can more easily accept it.

The Value of Focus in Reaching Your Goals

“One aught never to turn one’s back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half.” — Sir Winston Churchill

When you decide on a goal, and start on your goal setting path, it can be daunting.

    You Are What You Do!

Too often, people say one thing and do another. I admit that I have often slid into this rut and thought about how I need to do something (lose weight for example) and then don’t follow through and do anything about it (yes, I’m still 245 pounds). So even though I say that it’s important to me to lose weight, I don’t display the requisite motivation to follow through and do it, so my words are hollow.
