The Intricacies of a Compound Microscope
Have you ever used a compound microscope? Your first thought may be to answer “no” but chances are if you had Biology in high school or college that you have used a compound microscope. What do you remember about this microscope? You may remember what it looks like but can you recall how it worked? If not, this article is for you!
A compound microscope uses light to illuminate the sample or object so that you can see it with your eye.
Acoustic Transducers for High Altitude Balloon Control
Using acoustic transducers it maybe possible to create a small region of thicker air underneath a blimp and use that patch as a platform of air to float on while blowing ever so slightly low pressure air underneath the blimp like a hover craft. Although this idea sounds like a long shot it can be done by use of a screen, which shoots the directed frequency waves into the waves created by the acoustic transducers.
Hurricane and Typhoons Show Drop in Ozone Levels
A recent study, which was conducted by the Florida State University, showed that ozone levels drop as the Hurricanes get bigger. The NASA funded study looked at readings in the upper atmosphere of 12 storms. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Hurricane Center (NHC) which forecasts Hurricanes uses the eye to pin point the Hurricanes position and with that data a hundred mile radius was taken and the ozone was measured.
Aerospace Design Thoughts, The Bionic Man, and The Future of Design
Not all aircraft have wings, for instance NASA’s Steve Austin Bionic Man series style lifting bodies. Introduction to this thought process can be provided by a quick view of this site;
http://www.dfrc.nasa.gov/History/Publications/LiftingBodies/source.html
On a planet such as Mars where the winds are extremely high such as 200 knots but the atmosphere is not very dense you would not need wings.
Equipment for the Amateur Astronomer ? Part 1
Binoculars and telescopes and other astronomy equipment and accessories are the meat and potatoes of amateur astronomy. A good pair of binoculars is what introduced me to the pleasures of stargazing many moons ago and only after a couple of years scanning the skies did I graduate to a telescope. That was one of the department store 60mm telescopes we’re all warned about, but my folks didn’t know any better, and to a 12-year old kid, it opened up the universe.
Locusts To Help Make Energy From Bio Waste, part I
Plagues of Locusts through out history are well documented. In fact they are even documented back as far as the times of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs. We know also from our recent periods in history that large plagues created devastation in: 1926-1934, 1940-1948, 1949-1963, 1967-1969 and 1986-1989. With the current knowledge of science we may be able to control these plagues and control run away locust problems and calm down such plagues using sound and acoustic stimulus to guide the locusts away from agriculture and cities where people live as these events threaten to severely hurt the World’s food supply at a time when humans are pushing new unknown problems of massive population increases, ways to catch (using sound containment techniques) the high in protein locusts may also re-supply food in times of such crop and agricultural losses.
Building a Single Unit CO2 Laser Grid
When using a CO2 Laser to shoot down an incoming projectile, which enters a safety zone, it will be necessary to hold the laser on the target for about 5 seconds or more. To do this we must be able to shoot the laser in a grid, therefore if the projectile or aircraft or guided missile or even a UAV takes evasive action such as a high- speed high “G” 90 degree turn you can still register a kill on the target.
Earthquake and Disaster Delays in Scientific Innovation
In our present period we are continually reminded that we live on the surface of the planet and with that great honor comes issues of Mother Nature we must deal with. It is a fair trade off, as you get sunshine, warmth and heat from the sun; water, fish and surfing opportunities from the ocean and the stars, moon and cosmos to propel thought, enlightenment and understanding of who we are and perhaps some insight into why we are here.
Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Mudslides: Extreme Events - What Do They Mean?
In lieu of recent, tumultuous occurrences, people are more compelled than ever to discover the mystery of these modern-day, earth-changing events.
One day, Earth(1) is experiencing the fourth largest earthquake in a century - a 9.0 tectonics plate(2) shift(3) off the coast of Sumatra(4), the next day - Tsunami(5).
A Report(6) from NASA explains how the poles have permanently shifted by an entire inch.
Using High Altitude Blimp Cell Phone Communication
By allowing high altitude Satellite Type Balloons or Blimps with Cell Phone type communications we could have a tremendous secondary back-up for communication. Also we could use this high altitude blimp to send out frequencies good for health, such as the Earth’s frequency of 7.89 Hz to help the human and animal kingdom biological immune system.
