Hacker Challenge: Defeat Anti-Virus Programs
A newborn oppose streaming at the DefCon coder word this assemblage (held in Las Vegas in August) is already rousing up controversy. It module oppose hackers to organisation malware that can’t be perceived by anti-virus programs much as ones offered by Symantec and McAfee.
The oppose is dubbed Race to Zero, which refers to zero-day exploits — malware that is so newborn that endorsement against it doesn’t subsist yet.
Contestants aren’t existence asked to create newborn viruses but to add existing ones to wager if the anti-virus programs crapper grownup them.
The oppose has been criticized by anti-virus vendors for hortative hackers to scotch their products and inform virus writers newborn tricks. But the oppose organizers feature it’s actually a try to exhibit how poorly anti-virus products impact and to shew that not every anti-virus shields are equal.
“Poorly performing antivirus vendors should be titled out,” feature the oppose organizers on their scheme site.
